Covenant United Methodist Church has a long-standing tradition of faith, service, and community engagement in Springfield, Ohio. Formed in 2000 through the merger of Broaddus Chapel United Methodist Church and Wiley United Methodist Church, Covenant UMC carries forward a rich history rooted in outreach, education, and support for families in the surrounding community. Both congregations shared a legacy of meeting community needs through programs such as food and clothing pantries, educational initiatives, and neighborhood outreach—values that continue to guide Covenant’s mission today.
For generations, Covenant and its founding churches have focused on serving families beyond the walls of the church. Early community efforts included adult education programs, literacy classes, and outreach initiatives supporting dozens of families each month. These efforts helped establish Covenant UMC as a trusted community partner dedicated to empowering individuals and strengthening neighborhoods through meaningful service and engagement.
Today, Covenant United Methodist Church continues that commitment by hosting impactful programs such as Covenant Freedom School, a Children’s Defense Fund initiative designed to support students and families through academic enrichment, leadership development, family involvement, and community engagement. Through partnerships like Freedom School, Covenant UMC remains focused on serving, transforming, and empowering the community while creating opportunities for growth, learning, and connection for families across Springfield.
